Pot Throwing | Herb Pot Trio (Weekend Experience) – £125 per person
Introductory Level Pottery Throwing for Beginners – All materials included, £15 each discount for bookings of 2 or more people. Price includes firing pots (to be collected).
This event would make a great Christmas or birthday gift experience for parent(s)/grandparent(s).
Learn how to throw a pot (or three). Have a laugh and relax, and really get your hands dirty – making your own trio of potted herbs. Supported by our Master Potter Jon French, we’ll help you draw up your very own pot shape designs for your unique kitchen window sill garden. Then we’ll assist you to hand craft your own terracotta pots from your rough sketches, using traditional North Staffordshire ‘pot throwing’ techniques. Craft up to three pots on the wheel, (including water collection trays).
On day 2 we’ll then show you how to cleverly decorate your pots with ‘nature printing’ techniques. Use real herb leaves from your chosen 3 herb plants, to imprint the leaf patterns and make them totally unique to you. You’ll also learn some basic slab clay work techniques, by making some ceramic herb markers for your pots and learn how to hand finish your creations.
Your pot making experience might be a well earned treat to yourself, and in the process make a great personal gift to give to a friend – thoughtfully hand crafted by you! Or alternatively just make the pots as a present to yourself, for you and your own home – you deserve it!
Who knows where your pot throwing experience may lead? You could learn new skills that you might take up as a future hobby, or even end up on the next series of the Great Pottery Throw Down! This is a great way to help preserve interest in our local heritage, and at the same time support a local good cause, looking after our own community’s physical and emotional wellbeing.
No prior pottery making experience or artistic skill is necessary – we aim to make everyone feel comfortable to try their hand and ‘be creative’ – but above all to enjoy the experience. Small, friendly classes of 12 people max. (This course is intended for adults).
Free refreshments (tea/coffee/juice/biscuits) served throughout the weekend experience.
Location | Home Farm (Sustainability Hub), Keele University
