Park Life | Community Gardening
Weekly Activity – for community | for individuals | also available for business as volunteer days
Why not grow your own wellbeing? Join us weekly at local community gardening or nature conservation projects as a volunteer to help your own wellbeing, or why not come along to support a friend or relative who would benefit from this type of community activity. We regularly join local volunteer gardening and ‘friends’ groups at local parks and landscapes with activities including:
- tending formal gardens, planting, pruning, weeding etc.
- developing model ornamental, themed, sensory or wildlife gardens.
- opportunities to get involved in conservation work like tree planting, path making, woodland management, brash hedge making, wildlife conservation and building animal habitats.
All work is completed under the direction of park staff, with support from ‘friends of the parks’ staff, and with a representative from ‘human-nature’ too. Work done benefits the wellbeing of participating individuals, helps encourage and sustain local wildlife and generally improves our green space environment for local community to enjoy.
Park and Ride | Green Space Cycling
2016 Bike Ride Between Parks – for community | for individuals
On yer bike! Ever wondered how to cycle around the City safely and ‘traffic free’ between our local parks and greenspaces using local cycle routes and greenways – well we’ll show you how! Meeting at an agreed point, we’ll take to the local canal tow paths and cycle routes to explore the City’s parks, at an easy pace, with regular stops, perhaps to do some nature photography or admire our local landmarks.
- bring your own bike and camera or loan/hire ours (by prior arrangement and subject to availability).
- longer term we hope to acquire some bikes with electric motor assistance for the less able/less fit/more mature participant.
- share your photo images taken on the rides on our participant gallery (if you wish).
(You will need to complete a physical activity readiness questionnaire (PARQ) and possibly check with your doctor that this activity is suitable for you before participating).
Escape to the Country | City Escape Mountain Biking
Series of Bike Rides (subject to funding) – for community | for individuals
Do you know how to escape to the countryside from the City of Stoke-on-Trent? Have you found safe cycle routes or bike trails worth exploring? Hitch a ride with us, and we’ll share those rides we know. Let us know by our ‘Contact Us’ page about any rides that you might know which you’d like us to consider to add to our planned rides. All rides must give access to our local countryside in a traffic free manner and accessible from the City via cycle routes or the canal system
- bring your own mountain bike (or loan/hire ours by prior arrangement and subject to availability).
- Example rides might include:
- ride 1 – ‘Run to the Hills’ – From city centre (Hanley Park Canal Side) to Hanchurch Woods and back.
- ride 2 – ‘A Stone’s Throw’ – From city centre (Hanley Park Canal Side) to the village of Stone and back.
- ride 3 – you decide the ride – let us know your favourite ride to ‘escape to the country’ and we’ll look to add it to our planned rides.
